What is a "browser"? Are there choices?

A browser is actually what you see your web pages in. When you click on the E on your desktop, it opens a window that is called a browser. Actually, any window that opens that allows you to see a mixture of graphics and text is a browser. When you go to "My Pictures" and open it, you see your pictures or graphics. This is a browser window. When you open My Documents and see the contents there, that is a browser window.

But I step out on a limb and suggest that you mean the browser that everyone has called Internet Explorer. That is the most common internet browser, tough it comes with a host of problems. Until not to long ago, it was really the only option you had. Now they have browsers which are separate from Microsofts "freebie". Internet browsers should have three main objectives: simplicity, security and helping you get the most from the web (as in reliable search engines).

There are several, but these are the most commonly known.

Firefox

Opera

Google Chrome

Safari
