Seven Years Ago

As we watched the towers fall
Our hearts and spirits cried.
We wondered why this happened;
Why had so many died?

You heard the screams and cries that day
And your whole world was shaken.
Now we would surely make them pay
For the serenity they'd taken!

Justice had to be served, it's true.
But you sent your dove of peace
To remind us that justice would come from you.
It would not merely appease.

So many souls went home that day,
And many in years to follow.
For those who are left behind we pray;
Cradle them and heal their sorrow.
